  • Overview

    Managed Business Solutions is seeking a Technical Project Manager (Agile based) to join our internal applications development team. This is a full-time salaried benefited opening slated to start as soon as possible. We're seeking a Colorado-based Project Manager  who can work with our leadership team in Colorado Springs, Denver, and Ft. Collins, CO.

     

    The Technical Project Manager will primarily support external MBS clients by providing support across the full life cycle of software development projects including, but not limited, to Agile development project execution, SDLC project execution, earned value management, invoicing and project hours management, and schedule management.  This person will support both new and existing client initiatives. Local Colorado-based candidates only. No agencies or third parties.

     

    The Technical Project Manager is responsible for planning, leading, organizing, and motivating project teams to achieve a high level of performance and quality in delivering Agile and/or Waterfall-based projects that provide superior business value to users. Working alongside our other PMs and leadership team, the PM will be responsible for managing high-visibility software development projects using Agile and Waterfall methods in a fast-paced environment handling multiple projects for federal, state, and commercial clients.

    Responsibilities

    • Project Management (PM) – Lead large, complex projects consisting of multiple teams and/or requiring integration with other activities outside the scope of the team. At a team level, act in a consultative role to help stand up the appropriate people, processes, and tools as well as coaching where needed to optimize the efficiency of the project team to deliver services on time and budget
    • Agile / Scrum Leadership – Set up JIRA structure and project boards, lead sprint planning sessions, confirm user stories and task assignments in JIRA, lead product backlog grooming sessions, develop roadmap on size estimates/release plans, create client and team dashboards in JIRA, lead daily stand-ups, lead demos and retrospectives, work to eliminate roadblocks, provide data for status reporting, update other PM documentation-MS Project Server, risk registers, etc.
    • Project Planning – Define project scope and schedule while focusing on timely delivery of value; organize and lead project status/work meetings; prepare and distribute progress reports; manage risks and issues; correct deviations from plans; and perform delivery planning
    • Team Management – Assist in team development while holding teams accountable for their commitments and removing roadblocks; leverage organization-wide resources to improve capacity for project work; and mentoring and developing team members
    • Product Stakeholder-Client Support – Support the product owners in managing customer expectations for project deliverables, managing stakeholder communications, and helping to implement an effective system of governance
    • Process Management/Improvement – Define and manage a well-suited project management process; act as champion for ongoing process improvement initiatives to implement best practices within Agile project management
    • Team building – promote empowerment of the team, ensure that each team member is fully engaged in the project and making a meaningful contribution, and encourage a sustainable pace with high-levels of quality for the team
    • Proposal Support – Assist with writing management approach and project plan associated with proposed technical solutions.  Work with team members to develop project cost estimates

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Technical Management, Computer Science or closely related area
    • A minimum of  eight (8) years directly related Project Management experience, preferably with teams of 5 - 15 staff including analysts, developers, QA, tech writers, and related personnel
    • Proven experience managing fixed bid, custom software development projects on time and within budget
    • Proven project planning, oversight and close-out experience for both short-term projects and longer-term programs
    • Experienced in multiple professional methodologies (PMI/PMBOK, ITIL, SDLC, Agile/SCRUM, etc.)
    • Ability to stay current on technical service and product trends
    • Strong skills with MS Office, Project, Visio, SharePoint, and JIRA
    • Must possesses superior communication skills
    • Able to balance multiple, sometimes competing tasks
    • Must possess excellent ethics and solid personal accountability
    • Be an effective relationship builder and leader

    Desired Qualifications - any experience with the skill areas or certifications listed below or a combination of these areas would also add value:

    • Scrum Master Certification (Certified Scrum Master, CSM) highly desired
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Development toolkits (Visual Studio, .Net/C#, SharePoint Services)
    • PMP certification
    • PMI-ACP certification
    • ITIL v3 Certification
    • Federal project experience, familiarity with RFP process (technical volumes, past performance, etc.)

    Environment (Working conditions, physical requirements):

    • This position will require moving of up to 10 lbs. This position will be mostly stationary requiring some movement around the office and frequent communication with others. The average working hours will be 8 hours per day for this position with occasional need to exceed.
