The PC Technician’s role is to support and maintain personal computer (PC) desktops, laptops, peripherals, mobile devices, network devices and related software. This position will develop, optimize, document, and execute procedures for installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, upgrading, and optimize performance of this equipment. Works with end users to troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide training and assistance where required. Reports to the IT Manager.



Strategy & Planning

  • Recommend long-term strategies and platform standards to meet future computing needs.

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Conduct research on computer products in support of PC and mobile device procurement and development efforts. Evaluate and recommend hardware products for purchase.
  • Write technical specifications for purchase of PCs, mobile devices and related products.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform PC, mobile device, and peripheral equipment improvements, upgrades, and repairs.

Operational Management

  • Develop, document, test, maintain, execute and uphold procedures for desktop, laptop, mobile device, and peripheral deployment, upgrade, and retirement.
  • Develop, document, test, maintain, execute and uphold procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically monitoring PC and mobile device performance.
  • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end user workstation hardware, software, networked peripheral devices, and networking products.
  • Perform on-site and remote analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex PC problems for a variety of end users. Implement corrective solutions.
  • Maintain Microsoft Active Directory end user group policies, accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Receive and respond to helpdesk requests.
  • Maintain helpdesk request status, activity, and time card information in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Maintain the inventory of PCs, mobile devices, and related products.
  • Construct, install, and test customized configurations based on various platforms and operating systems.
  • If necessary, liaise with third-party support and PC equipment vendors.
  • Support development and implementation of IT projects.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of hardware and equipment contracts.
  • Accurately document instances of hardware failure, repair, installation, and removal.
  • Liaise with, and provide training and support to, end users and staff on computer operation and other issues.


Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certification

  • A two-year degree in Information Technology or related field or four years of progressively responsible experience may be substituted.
  • A+ and N+ certification
  • Working knowledge of the following software products is required: Microsoft Windows operating system, Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Acrobat, Apple iOS, Google Android, and Apple MacOS.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Excellent technical knowledge of Mobile device and PC/Mac hardware.
  • Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.
  • Working technical knowledge of current network protocols, operating systems, and standards.
  • Ability to operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories.
  • Able to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and OEM guides.
  • Ability to conduct research into PC issues and products as required.

Work Conditions

  • On-call availability in a rotating schedule.

  • Lifting and transporting of heavy to moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
