Sealaska Engineering & Applied Sciences (SEAS) has an As-Needed job opening for a Junior/Mid/Senior Level-As-Needed Engineer/Scientist. The position assists with coastal engineering, hydrodynamics, hydraulics, surveying, and aquatic science related projects.  SEAS is a small Alaskan Native-Owned business that is active in the engineering and aquatic science industry.  Our projects range from standard engineering evaluation, multi-faceted inland/coastal studies, often requiring the development and implementation of innovative, field data acquisition, analysis, and modeling techniques.

This is a remote, on-call role ideally seeking someone currently residing in or along the West Coast of the United States. We enjoy developing strong relationships with our clients (both federal and commercial) and work hard to provide technically advanced cost-effective solutions for them.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team on inland/coastal/ocean engineering and science projects
  • Assistance with analysis of aquatic processes and the interactions among the processes
  • Assistance with collection and analysis of field data (geophysical and other types of surveying, current meter, water quality, acoustic, etc.), and numerical modeling of hydraulics and hydrodynamics in aquatic environments
  • Analysis, visualization, and interpretation of geospatial and time-series data
  • Business development support and project management skills required

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university and 2 to 10+ years relevant experience in aquatic engineering/science projects required.
  • Working knowledge of FORTRAN, MATLAB, numerical models (STWAVE, ADCIRC, EFDC, GENESIS, Delft, SMS, HEC, etc.), CAD, and/or GIS.
  • Strong communication, technical writing, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with federal projects/programs.
  • US. citizenship required.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Work location required on the west coast of U.S/Alaska. No relocation expenses paid.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, use hands to finger, handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; bending or crouching; talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift/carry and/or move up to 50 pounds safely. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
